Touch rugby near Stockport

Straight answer first: we do not have a Stockport pitch of our own. What we do have is a session a short drive across south Manchester, and a good chunk of the squad who make that trip from the Stockport side every week.

What playing with us looks like from Stockport

Our session runs every Monday, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, at Hough End Leisure Centre on 480 Princess Road. From the Stockport side that is a cross-town run through south Manchester rather than a trek into the city centre. Most people drive, and there is free parking at the venue, which is the part that usually decides it.

Players turn up regularly from Heaton Chapel, Heaton Moor, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Burnage, Reddish, Bramhall. If you would rather not make the first trip on your own, say so when you message us. There is a good chance somebody is setting off from your end of town and would happily pick you up.

Is there touch rugby in Stockport itself?

Not that we run, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. Touch in Greater Manchester is concentrated in a handful of weeknight club sessions, and ours is the closest thing to a regular, year-round, all-abilities session on this side of the city.

That said, a Stockport-side session is something we have talked about. If you are local and interested, tell us. Enough people asking is genuinely how these things start.

FAQs

Stockport questions

What is touch rugby?

Touch rugby is rugby with the tackling taken out. Instead of being tackled you're stopped by a two-handed touch, so it's fast, low-impact and much easier to pick up than the contact game. Six players a side, lots of running, lots of passing, and nobody ends up in a heap on the floor.

Where can I play touch rugby near Stockport?

We don't have a Stockport pitch of our own yet, but plenty of our players come across from Heaton Chapel, Cheadle, Burnage and Reddish. Hough End is a straight run across south Manchester. If you're Stockport-based, message us and we'll sort you a lift with someone coming the same way.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, and most people do. You'll be put into a team within about ninety seconds of arriving and you'll know half a dozen names by the end. Coming alone is genuinely the normal way to join.

How much does it cost?

Your first session is free, no strings. After that we run pay-as-you-play and membership options, so message us and we will tell you exactly what it costs before you commit to anything.

Stockport-based and fancy a game?

Message us, tell us where you are coming from, and we will sort the rest, including a lift if you want one.
